Q1 Book report. City of Ember

While The City of Ember is a very good book, the main characters are just as interesting.  Doon and Lina are both deep characters.  I found Doon very interesting .  He's very curious, observant, and gets upset very easily.  He doesn't have a lot of friends in school because he has a hard time relating to people.  Another thing about Doon is that he's very smart and mechanical.  He even wanted the disgusting job of working in the pipe works, which in Ember, is pretty much the ember word for "sewer!"  Doon also has a great interest in bugs.  People don't really like insects, so this also may set him apart from other people.

Lina was also really interesting.  Like Doon, She's very curious and smart, but not quite as smart as Doon.  Lina is although, very creative.  Ever since she was a little girl, she has been drawing pictures of another city, different from Ember.  This may not sound too significant, but people in Ember have been told that there nothing other than the one city itself.  Lina is also a lot more energetic and caring than Doon, and a bit more reckless.

Imagery and foreshadowing were used Heavily in The City of Ember.  The city is vividly described, yet at the same time very open to your imagination.  The image of the pipe works, for example, is excellent.  You can picture the steel bridges, the river gushing wildly beneath you, and the rough tunnels off to the side.

The foreshadowing wasn't very subtle.  You can pretty much tell whether a character is good, villainous, ignorant, or not really important by first description.  Certain details that are important to the plot line will be heavily focused on, slightly revealing their significant nature.  This, however, isn't too much of a flaw considering the aimed audience.

Overall, the city of ember was an exciting read.  I would recommend it to science fiction fans, as well as mystery and adventure readers.  I would give it an average rating of 7.5 out of ten.

Memoir #2

My first happy memory with any signifigance was the day I got "Chip."  I was in a store at the visitor center overlooking Mt. Rushmoore.  I was two years old at the time, and I noticed a small plush buffalo that I absolutely HAD to bring home.  I was as joyful as could be when my grandma purchased him for me!  When I arrived home, I was elated to have my new toy, but what was I to name him?
My mom suggested "Chip."
